Our Story

Grate Catering & Events is an events catering company based in Southsea, Portsmouth.

We are a husband and wife team with a life long passion for fantastic food and service. After years of working in the industry as Head Chef/General Manager we decided to establish Grate Catering & Events to share our passion with more like-minded people and show how amazing food is and enjoying it with others can really be.

We take pride in the produce that we use and do think it is important to only use high welfare meats, sustainable fish and seasonal vegetables; all sourced as locally as possible bursting with flavour.

So if you care about what you eat, want to know where the food you eat is from and how it is prepared then get in touch and we can discuss your next event, or simply book a seat at the next supper club and meet us.

Have a “Grate” day,

Norman and Iris

I’ve have been working in kitchens from the young age of 15. During this time I have worked with and for some amazing people, including Raymond Blanc and more recently Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall.

Using the best possible produce and working with the seasons has always played a big role for me. It was working at River Cottage Canteen that really drove home the importance of using high welfare animals for meat and working with the seasons when writing menus.

So when Iris and I decided to set up Grate Catering, we wanted the produce to be at the core of everything we did.

Food had always played a big part in my life. Growing up my Mum always tried new recipes and as a family we more often than not had house guests to ‘feed’ and look after.

With this in mind it only seemed natural to end up working in restaurants, which is how I spent the last 20 years. I do believe it is important to look at what and how we eat, make conscious decisions, and if you ever met me you know I genuinely love nothing more than to talk about food. Collecting Cookbooks and trying new dishes and ways to cook is one of my hobbies ( you could even say the only one!).

So when Norman and I decided to venture out on our own the produce had to be at the forefront and our most important asset at Grate Catering and Events.
